A day with Jess
Today was my catch up day with Jess. As my birthday present for this year, she took me out to a bunch of stuff. Yeah, that’s right, a bunch of stuff.
First up we went out to Brandon, where we ‘had coffee’. Jess had a cup of chai, and I had a blackcurrant and something else tea, which I couldn’t actually taste for the most part because of my nose. Although it’s getting better, for the first half it was merely ‘miscellaneous hot liquid’. While we were around by the coffee place, we picked up the tickets for Rent.
We went and saw Jess’ mother, Teri, at her work (which is in Brandon) and then went to lunch. We went to lunch with Teri and Melissa, a family friend of theirs at a place called Tijuana Flats. I had a large burrito and liberally applied the hottest sauce they had. This sauce is awesome. Cleared out my sinuses, gave me that burning sensation all around my mouth, the buzzy lips, the tears… it was awesome. I got a bottle of the sauce, and it came with a warning that it should be used only a drop at a time. Ha!
Anyway, after lunch (and general amazement that I was still alive after what I was eating) Jess and I went to see Rent. Rent was pretty cool. Musical movie, with some very talented singers. Jess, having seen the live one, informed me that the spoken parts were parts of other songs they didn’t put in, and they didn’t go into such and such sub-plots and so on.
After seeing Rent we went to Borders to browse for a few things. Those of you that know me and books will know that me in a bookstore is a dangerous thing, so naturally there were a whole bunch of books that I want to get. I also bought a few manga, Jess bought some books… and then I had to leave before I bought a lot more.
Back to Tampa we went, where we had some dinner at Taco Bell and killed some time playing pool at a local pool hall. I think I need to have a look around for a better pool hall, this one was pretty average. However, given that I imagine most of the underage (under 21 here, bah) ones are about the same, I may be scouting that out for… long term plans. ^^
After playing pool, we headed over to Channelside to the IMAX theater there watch Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I thought it was quite good, although as with the other movies, they left out quite a lot from the books. Awesome in IMAX. ^^
After the movie it was back home and done for the day. All in all I had a great night, so thank you very much Jess.
