Not quite awake, the day glares at me

I woke up two minutes before my alarm was due to go off. I’m not sure if that means that my sleep being broken worked to my advantage, or what. In any case, it meant that I got up with a bit more time than usual, actually did some exercise and headed out the door feeling a bit more ‘with it’. First up I went and tried to ambush the animation lecturer, who hasn’t responded to my email. No dice, I couldn’t catch her before I needed to head off to class, so off I went. Databases class on distributed databases which was pretty interesting stuff, and a good mid-point coverage of what we’ve done and what we’ve got coming up.

After that was the Ubiquitous Computing class, which had a very interesting discussion of the various merits of Location Based Reminders and electronic list-making. The general consensus was that the LBRs would need to be tailored to fit certain profiles and have them easily accessible and useable, or it would always be turned off. Varying scales of how much you wanted to be bugged about things would need to be implemented as well. Anyway, interesting discussion.

After that I went and had some lunch, trying a spicy chicken burger from one of the outfits I hadn’t been to in the HUB yet. I actually managed to get a free drink out of it because the cashier guy screwed up and his boss gave the drink to me for free. Nice! ^^ After eating and doing some email, I went back to the CSE building and tried to track down the animation lady in her office. No dice again, although I saw a little conference thing going on which I suspect she was involved with. From up on the sixth floor I then ran into Lenore Blum waiting at the elevator and she was talking with her friend about not really knowing where to go, so I guided the two of them to the Auditorium where she was about to give her lecture this afternoon for the Colloquium. After that I sat down and actually listened to her lecture, which was on how Turing and Newton had divergent opinions about tackling problems, and that Computer Science could learn a bit more from Calculus, and vice versa. Not terribly diverting, but not uninteresting either.

After that I tried to see the animation lecturer again, failed again, went back to the apartment. I think my apartment needs a name, although I suppose I should consult my flatmates about that. Maybe not, if the only place I’m gonna use it is here. Then again, it might just… slip out. ^^

Eh… ensue emails and general administrative crap on my computer, which always takes me longer than I think it will. There’s a Symantec programming competition coming up soon that I’d like to enter, don’t know if I’m allowed to or not (do I count as a legal resident of the US is somewhat open to interpretation, it would seem). Lots of stuff to do as far as applying for scholarships and so on as well so I can finance this caper of mine, not to mention the actual school work I need to get done. Yeesh.

Oh, thank you Siobhan, now I wish I was Tom Ford and I have a magazine to buy at some point this week.

And I need to get groceries. I think I’ll wait until tomorrow though, and just go grab a sub up the Ave for dinner tonight. Yes Mum, one filled with lettuce and tomato and green pepper, like all my other subs… I don’t eat complete crap. I sat down and watched a little anime while I ate, then afterwards got down to it. I actually did a bunch of work, but in the end it didn’t amount to a whole lot of changes, just a lot of correspondence. I still have issues charging people for my emails, even if it takes me more than an hour to formulate appropriate responses. Especially when really they can’t meet me face to face as well… that I have no problem charging for. Weird, huh? Sadly, no ‘work time’ actually can go on the books for tonight.

I watched some anime and tried to make it an early night… not a whole lot of success, but when I did get to sleep I got to sleep, no brokenness.
