What do I always need to do?
The answer is “Get out more”.
I left my phone on vibrate last night by accident, so I didn’t wake up to my alarm going off… that wasn’t so good. I missed meeting up with someone early to class, and I was late to my Architecture class that I’m looking into taking. There’s so much hassle going into this research thing, I don’t know if it’s even going to be worth it. I might as well just do the courses I’m looking at because they look interesting and research either be damned, or be almost the entire focus of my last quarter (and a lot of reading over the summer).
Anyway, it was a good class with some interesting stuff on the measurements of different kinds of lights and how they’re modeled in computer software. After that I hoofed it over to the CSE building and had 3D photography, which turned out to be in another room, but luckily I didn’t miss any of it because they were running a little late. I need to do photometric and geometric calibration of a digital camera and write some high dynamic range algorithms for the first homework. It’s certainly some different stuff! After that I went and had lunch with Jenny (whom I met at the Sun presentation if you’ll recall) at China first. This time we ate in, which was good. After that we went and sat in the quad and just talked for quite a while… actually I harped on for a little bit in there as well, which kinda made me feel like an idiot, but overall it was good fun and I’m looking forward to seeing her again sometime.
After that I strode purposefully back to the CSE building and went to the Colloquium for today (sadly I missed out on the free food), which was on Neurobotics – combining neuroscience with robotics, particularly in the fields of rehabilitation and prosthetics. Some interesting stuff actually, and not explained low-level where I couldn’t understand it either.
After that I headed back to my office for a bit to do some email and administration for about an hour before I went out with the Thursday CSE crew for dinner and a movie. This was a really great opportunity to get to know a few of the CSE people a bit better. I went out with Tyler, Colin, Atri and Atri’s wife whose name I am trying vainly to remember. Something starting with a ‘C’ I think. I hate not being able to remember names. Anyway, we went out to this place called Shultzy’s, a German sausage joint. I had a ‘Ragin Cajun’ which turned out not to be so ragin’ and was in serious need of Tabasco sauce. Anyway, after dinner and chat we hopped on the bus and went out to one of the many independent theaters around here. This one was in Wallingford and we went there to see Thank you for smoking, which was brilliant. Extremely well written, great characterizations that were very well played by a star studded cast. I think that the son probably could have been a little better cast, but he wasn’t too bad.
After that it was back to the office, where I proceeded to blog a little and have a bit of a catch up on MSN with Robbie! Great to hear from him and grab some news as his term winds to a close. I also had a brief chat with Dace, which was good.
Anyway, after that I had a bit of trouble getting sleep, but eventually got there.
