Happy Brithday, Dad!
Well, Happy Birthday Dad! It was his birthday in NZ yesterday, but today’s the day in the US. ^^
I must’ve got about 3 hours sleep, felt rancid when I got up and stumbled over to Architecture. Luckily the material wasn’t anything particularly strenuous, as I was having an extremely hard time concentrating. As that was finishing up I was starting to get my ‘second’ wind for sleep and felt better. I went to Photography which was really good as all the faculty involved put in some meaningful discussion. I printed off a form (and filled it out) that I thought I needed to sort out my Architecture class to the ‘Audit’ option… then when I went and saw Lindsay, she told me just to go along if I wanted, but not to register for it at all or they were gonna charge me an extra $1000 or something. Yeesh. That said, that’s because I would have been going over 18 credits, which is their imposed sanity limit (full time grad is 10 credits)… once I get my courses all sorted out, I’ll be doing the full 18. Yeesh.
From there it was back to pick up Angelina (with a brief stop at the anime club table out in front of the HUB to say hi), and do some quick emails, then it was back into university, laden with my camera from GRAIL and a bunch of other stuff. I set things up in my office, then went to the Colloquium, which was fascinating. It was all about modeling a neural network in Silicon, and had a bunch of really interesting working circuits and stuff which is way ahead of the pack. It’s still a long way off from competing with the biology (i.e. your brain), but it’s getting better and is certainly well on the way to producing extremely helpful prosthetics for eyes, noses and possibly parts of the brain. It’ll still be years before they’re commercially available, but they’re definitely doing some cool stuff.
From there it was back to the office and then I emailed back and forth with people for a while… now I am finally sorted out with what the hell I’m registered for. I’m registered for enough material for almost two people, sitting in on another class for interest, trying to run my business and also trying to find time to socialize and do other things so I can get some friends here. I’m nuts. This is more than even I usually do, and I usually do a lot. Yeesh. Well, here goes.
I missed out on the free food and presentation I was going to go to in the Atrium because I got a little absorbed in what I was doing on my laptop, reading a paper and so on… typical. I ended up grabbing a couple of burritos on the way back to my apartment, watched some anime while I ate, then got back to work on my Vision assignment. I didn’t get a heck of a lot done, but I got a little done before my brain just said “go to bed or I’ll make you pass out on your keyboard”. I went to bed.
