Directionally challenged

directionally-challenged

Well, I had a usual long work day today, nothing remarkable. I decided I was gonna go see a movie at night, worked out my bus routes and everything, had a backup movie session and everything. I then proceeded to take the right bus in the wrong direction for 10 minutes. Once I had realised my error and got off the bus, the next bus going the right way didn’t come for another 10 minutes by which time I missed one session. Then once I was back at where I started, I realised by the time I actually got to town to watch the backup session I would miss that session as well.

I gave up and went back to my apartment movie-less and watched some anime instead.

Tired all day

tired-all-day

My body did not want to get up today. It heartily objected to the point that when I sent signals to my arms and legs to move, it just said no for quite a while. Eventually I did get up once my brain decided to reconnect with my body, I got some emails and admin stuff done at the apartment before heading in to Uni.

I went to class, I talked to Brian about research problems (it doesn’t look like I’m gonna get an awful lot done for him this quarter).

I went and had lunch with Michael and Christian at the Burger Hut (mix and match burger ingredients… kind of like Subway but for burgers). Christian leaves next week to go back to Germany.

The Colloquium today was on Computational Biology was really interesting, although a little over my head in some places. It might be something to look into doing a little bit of learning in, although obviously my problem will be how much time I have for doing all that!

After that it was more work at my office, and sharing my baked goodies with my office-mates and anyone I knew who happened to walk in.

I went back to my apartment for dinner (at dinner time, gasp!), did a little bit of email and pretty much just needed to go to bed… still very, very tired.

When I’m the one motivating others to clean, you know it’s messy

Well, today I forgot to take my phone with me… that was a little odd, but I think I just missed a few txts. As far as Nate and I’s photography project is concerned, the weather was crap so we couldn’t take any more outdoor photographs, but we took some indoor ones with a point light source we got from Michael.

I had dinner with Greg today at his place, it was good to chat and catch up with him. He also gave me a bunch of yummy baking which I will be consuming over the week and sharing with various of my Computer Science compatriots. After dinner it was back to the office for more work (I swear I could practically live in the office if they didn’t disallow it…) and then eventually back to my apartment.

Back at the apartment at around 11pm, started doing cleaning and washing for a couple of hours. I even managed to get Andrew to clean up (turns out he’s not so bad, just very anti-social and leaves shit all over the place… not a “big” mess-maker though). Aidan helped as well; Kyung didn’t do squat, which was kind of frustrating. I was just sick of the mess. Anyway, after all that I collapsed into bed, dead tired.

Street Fair

street-fair

Well, the last couple of days has been the Seattle Street Fair. All up and down the Ave were stalls for food, art, decorations and lots of the kinds of things I’ve come to expect from the Arts Centre markets in Christchurch. Similar kind of thing, only on a larger scale. Nate and I worked fairly solidly on Saturday on our assignment, taking a whole bunch of photographs. He introduced me to ‘Outrageous Ginger Ale’ which was pretty good (although definitely still Ginger Ale and not Ginger Beer). At the fair we had some Kenyan chicken piri piri, which was ok. Not particularly special, but ok. Sunday he was busy and I was in a semi-vegatative state anyway.

It’s all a bit of a blur

its-all-a-bit-of-a-blur

These past few days just blur together for me, really. I went to classes, I worked a lot, I wrote a small paper as critical analysis of another paper for the section of the mid-term I didn’t cover earlier in the week.

We also had the CSE BBQ, which was fun. It rained (which apparently is almost traditional now), I had hot dogs and burgers, I had a couple of drinks… I also got my face all painted up and ran about being silly with some other people. Yes, there are photos for the curious.

I went to the Anime club meeting for a little while, got a few questions about my face-paint (but not many), then went back to my apartment, cleaned up and crashed out.
