Leith: the vegetable

Stress induced insomnia led to me being sick. I was weak as a kitten, generally felt like utter crap, sporadic headaches, nausea… in short, not a fun time. With the brain capacity of a vegetable I couldn’t get off much more than about half a dozen emails this week and that’s about all I did. On Tuesday I watched the Colloquium webcast live from bed, trying to rest and still get something done. The lecture was on Game Theory as it applies to networking. Certainly makes me wish I took the Game Theory paper back at Canterbury. I tried looking up some sources for my Digital Culture essay, but I couldn’t focus at all, and my head just started to hurt after a while.

Getting sleep at normal times seemed like a pointless exercise, and I was in bed drifting in and out most of the time anyway. As my mother likes to point out however, going to bed and resting is still important, even when you can’t sleep. So I “rested”. I really couldn’t afford to be sick, I’ve got too much to get done and I’m already woefully under-prepared for these classes, so now I’m probably really behind as well. I’ve emailed my lecturers, hopefully it won’t be too bad.

I also ran into Aidan earlier in the week and had a talk with him. He mentioned I look like sick, I said I looked like crap and I knew that, and we had a bit of a talk and a bitch about the walking pigsty that is our roommate Andrew. We’re going to sit him down and talk to him about that. Anyway, Aidan was really supportive though and said if I needed anything while I’m not feeling so good he was there. That meant a lot, since being sick by yourself is scary enough when you can barely look after your own needs.

On Sunday I worked on a pet project for a little while to let my mind focus on something and start thinking again (without getting a headache) using something not too strenuous, but certainly more than what I was capable of during the week.
