Trip 3: Atlanta
Well, at the last minute, Anastasia and I decided that we were going to head up to Georgia and watch the NCAA Men’s Basketball final. The reason we would do something so crazy is, of course, because the Florida Gators had made it to the final!
Now, allow me a moment to explain why this is significant. Last year, UF faced off against Ohio State in the basketball final and beat them. Later that year, the same two schools faced off in the NCAA Football final, and UF came out victorious again. This was historically significant now, because no school had ever held both titles at once.
To top it off, this year (the same academic year as the football title, rather than just the calendar year) the same two schools faced off again in the basketball, which is another first, I believe. What was certainly a first was that UF won! Consecutive titles in basketball, holding both basketball and football titles at once in the same academic year.
As expected, the level of basketball was superb and it was just a really good game to watch. Suspense times, good skills all around, showmanship… just excellent stuff, really. We were really happy that we got up there to see it.
While we were in Atlanta, Anastasia and I stayed with friends of Anastasia’s family. Tammy and Pete had quadruplets a while back, so that was a heck of an experience! The house was enormous, we stayed downstairs and the next day we got to experience the quadruplets. That was a riot… I certainly don’t think I’d want quadruplets, although they seemed to like me better than most people (apparently).
